JULY 2009
Dear Friends and Supporters of
The Queens and Kings School, Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
The last nine months has seen very substantial progress being made at The Queens and Kings School.
Thanks to your prayers and generosity we have seen a transformation for which we can give our glory to God. The first floor has been decked, much of the second floor is up to roofing level, the school has an access road, work is to recommence on the dual carriage way access road to the school in October 2009, the Rivers State Ministry of Education has recommended that The Queens and Kings School becomes an authorised Boarding School with effect from September 2009, the beginning of the 2009/10 academic year.
This attests to the very high quality of service given to the community by the school with its Character Quality education and high moral standards. A number of Nigeria Christian Scientists wish to send their children to The Queens and Kings School if it becomes a Boarding School (they live too far away for their children to attend as day pupils), and at a PTA meeting last Saturday there was a unanimous agreement by the Parents and Teachers for the school to progress to a Boarding School in September 2009, some six weeks away.
For this to be achieved we again call upon you for your prayers and financial help. The school needs to be roofed before the two top floors can be used for the senior school and a girls and (separate) boys boarding departments. The estimated cost of this work is N5m (£20,800 or $33,000).
The school has been successfully run from the ground floor for four years. It is now time to see a lifting.
The parents and teachers have completed questionnaires unanimously supporting this progressive move to a Boarding School and they have given the following reasons:-
- Truly TQ&KS will then become the bedrock for development of successful professionals
- The children will be able to focus on their studies with unnecessary distractions (videos etc).
- With the discipline of teachers, support for homework academic standards will improve
- A more regulated academic environment will be created to provide leaders of tomorrow
- A family atmosphere will encourage the reading habit and give closer monitoring of children
- The God fearing attitude of dedicated children will bless the community
- Some parents would prefer their children to go to a boarding school
- Children from a wide geographical area will be able to attend
- It will be easier to achieve education of an International standard
- Pupils will be more self reliant, independent, prepared to be leaders in society
It will produce opportunities for reasoning together and enlightenment
Thank you so much for your help in the past. God bless you for supporting this project
With much love and gratitude

P.S. from Ros. As you will see from the above, Trevor is over in Port Harcourt, Nigeria at the moment. Recently we received a wonderful gift from a disbanding Christian Science Society, which has enabled us to do a lot of what we have accomplished. If you have access to the Internet please check out www.evedesign.com and ask your friends and families to have a look too.
