Description: The book Mr. Dickey: Secretary to Mary Baker Eddy has been read and enjoyed by thousands of Christian Scientists. In its two editions, it was praised for its thoroughness and directness as "a window on the Christian Science Movement just before and after the death of its founder."

Now the author of Mr. Dickey has a new book, a personal spiritual journey book which summarizes her many years of loyalty, love and challenge in the Christian Science movement. Her year's journey, The Woods at Acorn Camp: The Year's Journal of an Everyday Christian Scientist finds its inspiration through walks in the beautiful grounds of the landmark children's day camp across the street from her home. Memorable experiences with God's grace and healing, comments on the trials of diminishing congregations of churches, experiences in a changing branch church, neighborhood, family and personal challenges all come face-to-face with a rock bottom faith in the book that all of life is finding and re-finding God. Illustrations by national camping pioneer the late Herb Sweet of Acorn Farm Camp enhance the parallels of the uplift of Nature and the lifelong walk with Nature's God.

Description: On a snowy day one hundred years ago Adam Dickey walked up the driveway to the Chestnut Hill estate near Boston to begin his service as secretary to Mary Baker Eddy, the leader of the Christian Science movement. As he went about his daily life during the next three years at Chestnut Hill, Dickey kept journal notes of conversations and spiritual lessons with Mrs. Eddy as well as routine happenings and some difficulties in “the household.” He also recorded Mrs. Eddy’s handling of business affairs of the Christian Science movement which was by now a world-wide phenomenon.

These recently recovered journal notes, along with Dickey’s personal letters home and photos of his life at Chestnut Hill, over 125 pages of invaluable historical documents reproduced exactly and transcribed, are included for the first time in a new edition of the popular book Mr. Dickey: Secretary to Mary Baker Eddy.

Mr. Dickey: Secretary to Mary Baker Eddy [Second Edition] With a Chestnut Hill Album contains:

  • Dickey’s biography as Part I of the book
  • A Chestnut Hill Album Part II [replacing Dickey's Memoirs of Mary Baker Eddy]. It includes-
  • Dickey’s selective, detailed notes recording Mrs. Eddy’s morning meditations with her household over a period of two years reproduced from the original transcriptions.
  • Photos of the household “family” and the mansion through several seasons as taken by Dickey and his wife Lillian, also part of the household.
  • Commentary on the journal entries by Baxter and Christian Science historian Keith McNeil, who owns the collection and has made it available to the public through this book.

To read this Chestnut Hill album is to step inside a world-famous home and personally experience the day-today life of the a strong, decisive and deeply spiritual leader of Christian Science movement and her “family” in her last, challenging years.

The spiritual lessons and new information in these entries are inspiring and invaluable.

Description: Healing always has been and always will be the message of Christian Science. And what does that mean exactly? Physical healing, of course, but much more!

This revealing and honest book by a prize-winning historian and contented Christian Scientist, is written as a direct look from the inside. Its thesis: that the problems Christian Science is presently facing are in large part due to attitudes of Christian Scientists themselves in the heartland. Basing her arguments on the early history of the movement, the author contends that Mary Baker Eddy did not in the final analysis intend for her religious discovery to be a “healing method” but instead a revolutionary view of reality and Christianity based on the allness of God. The point: Christian Scientists need to quit frightening people with risky behavior with children and themselves and get back to the attractive spiritual bases of the movement.

…the mission of Christian Science now, as in the time of its earlier demonstration, is not primarily one of physical healing . Now, as then, signs and wonders are wrought in the metaphysical healing of physical disease, but these signs are only to demonstrate its divine origin—to attest the reality of the higher mission of the Christ power to take away the sins of the world.
