OCTOBER 2004
Dear Friends and Supporters,
The
Queens and Kings School, Port Harcourt, Nigeria
Please help us finish the roof of the new school.
Today
is the second birthday of the original Queens and Kings School!
What a lot has happened in the two years since that happy day
when the little school opened with just
6 pupils in 2002.
Stella, the headmistress, wants us to thank you all for your wonderful
support over this time which has enabled us to build the new school
with ten classrooms. The decking/roof is complete over nearly
half the building and now the aim is to finish off the remainder,
and also to fit windows and doors so that the children can move
in.
Stella
also reports that the children are very happy and are asking when
Daddy (Trevor) will be coming. She tells us “currently
we have five teachers and two minders working in the school and
they are putting in their best efforts. The parents have
seen so many positive changes in their children. The ability
of the children challenges us to give gratitude to God.
We now have bright children able to express themselves.”
A quotation from the Bible came to her to share “ For I
know the purposes which I am planning for you … purposes
of peace… to give you prosperity and hope” Jeremiah
29:11 (Literal Translation/Young’s Literal Translation)
We
have heard of a lovely idea from some of our friends in the south
of England. They are gathering in the home of one of them
to organise a sale to the public of their home-made goods, produce,
items they no longer need etc. and giving all the money raised,
including the charge for renting each table used to display their
wares, to The Queens and Kings School.
Several people are now paying us a standing order amount each
month directly to our bank account – it is so helpful to
know that this amount will be there on a regular basis.
Some more good news for those of you who like to make donations

Many
thanks for your love and support during these last two years from

REPORT
Education,
a Foundation for Life (E.F.L.) The Queens and Kings School, Port
Harcourt is the first school to be opened and run under E.F.L.
principles. It commenced in October 2002 with just
16 pupils in a rented schoolroom. Now it has more than 60
pupils and has outgrown the original room. E.F.L. embraces
the whole Community – Children, Parents, Teachers, Neighbours
and the Environment with God’s Love.
Progress Parents have expressed their joy and gratitude at the
progress they have witnessed in their children. The children
are more respectful to their parents. They are happy and
enjoying attending school. They like reading books at home
(as well as at school) and they are speaking better and clearer
English. We have regular examinations each term and the
children are making very good progress indeed.
The
children all wear school uniforms, also socks and shoes, and have
P.E. Uniforms as well. We are also very grateful for the
school books and hymnals provided by Christian Science schools
and churches in the U.S. and the U.K. Our printers, who
originally gave the school hundreds of pads of writing paper,
have recently again been very generous and have printed, free
of charge, our latest exercise book covers and school files and
posted these to Port Harcourt at no cost to the school. The school
currently has six teachers and we are very grateful for how the
project is developing.
The Building Project Now we are desirous of moving into our new
school building. The Queens and Kings School has purchased
5.5 plots of land, and erected the walls of the new building solely
with voluntary donations. At present four classrooms, out
of the ten planned for the ground floor, have been roofed, but
still have to be fitted out.
We
are looking for substantial contributions (every contribution
regardless of its size is highly valued) to help deck (i.e. roof)
the remaining six classrooms on the ground floor, and fund the
purchase of the ground floor doors and windows. We also need to
acquire a school bus to enable enough children to get to the school.
If
you would like to help with a donation, please send it, payable
to “The Queens and Kings School”, to Trevor and Ros
Leach, Bradda House, Bradda Road, Port Erin, Isle of Man IM9 6PQ,
British Isles.
