Classes / seminar descriptions:

"Paul and Women"

Description: Not too many people would disagree about Paul’s influence in the church.  13 of the 27 books in the New Testament have been attributed to him.  More than half of Acts is focused on him.  In fact, for better or worse, he was probably the founder of Christianity, as we know it.  But some of Paul’s statements about women in 1 Corinthians are more than troubling, for example: “It is good for a man not to touch a woman.” (7:1) “The head of every man is Christ; the head of a woman is man.” (11:3)  “Man is the image and glory of God, and the woman is the glory of man.”  (11:11)  And my personal favorite, “Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; … for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.”  (14:34-35) In this session we will be looking at these texts and giving them some context in our attempt to understand Paul better.

Duration / tuition: this seminar is 1 session long and lasts 90 minutes
