Description: If we were to venture on some great journey, how would
we prepare ourselves? Wouldn’t we study the route, become aware of the
conditions and acquire supplies needed for our trip? Wouldn’t we want
to be outfitted with everything necessary for success? Otherwise, our
journey would be difficult and haphazard.

All mankind must make a spiritual journey. We must leave the false
belief of life in matter to the realization of life in Spirit. Mary
Baker Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science, writes,

“As the children of Israel were guided triumphantly through the Red
Sea, the dark ebbing and flowing tides of human fear,--as they were
led through the wilderness, walking wearily through the great desert
of human hopes, and anticipating the promised joy,--so shall the
spiritual idea guide all right desires in their passage from sense to
Soul, from a material sense of existence to the spiritual, up to the
glory prepared for them who love God.” (S&H 566:1-9)

In the Christian Science Sunday School, the Ten Commandments, the
Lord’s Prayer and the Beatitudes are designated as the student’s First
Lessons and form a basis for understanding Christian Science. All
three lessons present clear examples of man’s passage from sense to
Soul.
