Review:
Washington, DC's "The Review" magazine has written of this beautiful and compelling Christmas CD [The Joy of Christmas]:  "The true meaning of Christmas is celebrated with quiet spirituality by soprano Laura Mann in her new CD "The Joy of Christmas."  A resident of the D.C. area who has performed in operas, operettas, and vocal concerts worldwide, Ms. Mann lends her sensitive, delicately sung interpretations to traditional favorites as well as lesser known Christmas songs in this album....Brief readings from the Christmas story introduce each set of songs.  The story of Christ's birth is also celebrated with lesser heard songs such as "Gesu Babmibno," "The Virgin's Slumber Song," and "The Coventry Carol...There is an angelic harp solo of "Silent Night," and the 'gloria's' of "Angels We Have Heard on High" are bejeweled with Ms. Mann's coloratura flourishes.  By the time you reach the last song, "O Holy Night," you will feel the calm peace that should be Christmas, -- the peace that so easily gets lost in the midst of hectic holidays."

The Joy of Christmas CD, recorded in gratitude for Class Instruction in Christian Science, has attracted the attention of Warner Brothers, which recently purchased two of its tracks for use in their film/media projects. Laura's professional credits also appear yearly in "Who's Who in America" and "Who's Who Among American Women."  She is recipient of both Rockefeller and Fulbright grants, and is a tenth-season Touring Artist for the Virginia Commission for the Arts. The arrangements, for keyboard and orchestra by Concord Jazz recording pianist/composer Stefan Scaggiari, are a blend of classical and contemporary styles.

Dr. Mann, presently on leave from George Mason University where she has taught voice for the last 13 years, has been soloist in Christian Science churches across the country for many years, and given many programs at Christian Science nursing facilities such as Tenacre (Princeton, NJ), Lynn House (Alexandria, VA), and Wide Horizon (Denver, CO).  She said by phone that "The purpose of this album is to have whomever hears it be reminded of the Christ, -- perhaps for the thousandth time, - perhaps for the very first."
