Christian Science Society, Gulfport, Mississippi

Hurricane Katrina destroyed the building used by the Christian Science Society in Gulfport, Mississippi. Located near the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico, this area received some of the most devastating damage from the storm surge itself.

Following the hurricane, the members of the Society who were still in the area, began to conduct services from private homes. This continues even today as the members look for property to build their new church and Reading Room. The Society has received help from Christian Scientists and CS churches across the country, including the receipt of the entire contents of a California branch church Reading Room which was closing. The Society even had some pews in storage which were not damaged in the storm — which are now ready for a new church home. The Christian Science Society in Gulfport reports no special needs at this time.

The Society holds Sunday church services at 10:30 a.m. Please call 228-832-2398 or 228-860-8723 for the current location of church services.
