Hi Mark,
I have been checking my email all day and have not received anything pertaining to reading the Bible or Science and Health in a year.  I checked on both and I am registered.  Can you help me?

Hi Farida, Elaine, Nancy, Joan and all.
Yes Nancy and Joan are correct.  THIS group is for the discussion of the Bible Lesson.

The two READING groups that will be beginning NEXT Thursday are:
reading Science and Health (about 2 pages a day M-F)
To join go to http://www.csdirectory.com/community/csreadinggroup.html

reading the Bible in Chronological order (you read from whatever translation or paraphrase you wish)
Assignments given out daily M-F.
To join go to http://www.csdirectory.com/community/dailybible.html

I will be sending out general instructions at the beginning of next week.
Glad to have you all on board for these projects.

Mark

here ya go…I do believe this is for the reading one…below was the message with it that he sent to one of us…

If you STAY with the CSBibleStudy group (the one you are receiving this email from) you can send and receive emails having to do with the study of the Christian Science Bible Lesson.  It will NOT include the reading assignments and discussion of the daily Bible reading.

If you want to be a part of the reading of the Bible in Chronological Order you need to sign up for the "DailyBibleReadingGroup". Likewise it will NOT include discussions about the Bible Lesson (specifically).

Just got a great example of why using the NKJV makes a big difference but will have to send tomorrow or tonight…bye

Hi all,

What a blessing to have so many thinkers and researchers on board this journey as we delve into the Bible together.

On a separate note, I am a bit uncertain as to how I should join the Bible reading session.  I thought I had.  So what are these conversations that we are having?  Are they not leading to our Bible Reading that commences on the 1st of July?  Can someone, perhaps Mark, set me right?

Much love,

Farida

I, Elaine, am ssigned up for the Bible study.  I am going to use the Message Bible, by Petersen, just for a different approach.  Some very good insights today.

I agree that there are all levels and places the inspiration occurs for our instruction-before, during, after the writing; before, during, after the reading.

I also would like to say that at times I have been inspired, and brought up to a higher spiritual understanding, with just a PHRASE from one of those “hard to read” (violent or promiscuous) passages from the Bible.  I truly enjoy what I call an “MBE”, which is what I understood she did when she prayed, to “randomly” (inspirationally and prepped with prayer) open the Bible and read exactly where the eyes fall.  Even though it could be said was taken out of context, that’s where the inspiration lay, within a few words of a phrase, and there was benefit in reading it.

I’m also very grateful for this discussion, the first real discussion I’ve experienced after signing onto the option.  I also want to say that I don’t think you are going to be included in the study of the Bible (instead of this, the study of the lesson), unless you are separately signed up for it as Mark indicated.

Love to all ,
Diane

Hi all...

I've never read through the entire Bible and am looking forward to doing this with all of you beginning next week, but it certainly seems that some verses are more inspired than others.  I'm also realizing as I read more articles and research by Bible scholars that when you understand the background and context of some of the passages, the motivation of the author, and the audience he's writing for, the inspired teaching behind them comes through, so maybe I'm lacking the inspiration and knowledge to understand some of the passages that don't seem as inspiring.

As Mrs. Eddy said (and someone else shared) "the Bible came through inspiration and needs inspiration to be understood."  And she goes on to say, "Hence the misapprehension of the spiritual meaning of the Bible, and the misinterpretation of the Word in some instances by uninspired writers, who only wrote
down what an inspired teacher had said."  (S&H 319)  I'm sure the same could be said of uninspired translators and/or translators with a particular agenda.  So, the person who originally spoke the scripture may well have been  inspired, but some of the inspiration may have been lost along the way.

Looking forward to meaningful discussions on the Bible passages with all of you,
Patti

Subject: All Scripture?

In Sec. 3 of the Bible Lesson, the passage from II Tim. 3:16 reads, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness".  This brings up the question which was once asked of me:  Is ALL scripture inspired by God?  I was asked this when serving as Second REader in my church.  The First Reader and I were practicing and after I read the passage, he asked if I believed ALL scripture is inspired?  At the time I couldn't really answer him.  Then last year I read the Bible from cover to cover and was appalled at some of the stories - incest, violence, cannibalism, etc.  When I saw my friend in church I referred back to his question and said, "My answer is No."  I certainly didn't think those references to the most base motives and actions are inspired.

But then the above passage would seem to be a lie.  As I read further in the passage...."and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness", then I thought that perhaps this is what we derive from even reading about those awful events....we learn what NOT to do.  I'm still not sure that this is inspiration from  God, but I'd appreciate what others might think about this.

Thanks.
Joan
