We are a small group of Christian Scientists from CT and New York, who have organized the "Common Ground Committee" as a grass-roots effort to lift the tone of public discourse on issues of national importance. We came together originally seeking ways to help support Mrs. Eddy's vision for the Monitor. After much prayer, an idea unfolded to conduct a series of public forums that will "showcase" the Monitor in the pursuit of our mission. As a publication devoted to seeking the truth, whose mission is to "Injure no one, but to bless all mankind" the Christian Science Monitor is uniquely qualified to help bridge differing viewpoints on controversial topics.
Our first public forum will be on Oct. 25th 2010, 7:30pm at the Greenwich Library's Cole Auditorium. It is entitled "What is the Role of Government in the Nation's Economy?" and will feature the Monitor's Editor-in-Chief John Yemma, as the panel's moderator. He will frame and guide an informative and lively discussion with experts on different sides of the issue. Joining Mr. Yemma on the stage Oct. 25 will be:
Christopher Shays Former Congressman for Connecticut.
Mark Zandi Chief Economist for Moody's Analytics
Stephen Moore Member of the Wall Street Journal Editorial Board
