The Pacific Boychoir plus organist William Ludtke will perform in a concert to benefit the Roof Fund of architect Bernard Maybeck's great First Church of Christ, Scientist, Berkeley, on Sunday, March 2, at 3 p.m., 2619 Dwight Way, Berkeley.
The Grammy Award-winning Pacific Boychoir will sing selections ranging from choral masterworks to American spirituals. Organist and composer William Ludtke will play selections by Cesar Franck and Johann Walther.
The church is a National Historic Landmark and is considered Maybeck's masterpiece. For 98 years it has stood in the heart of Berkeley, but time and weather have taken a toll. The roof of the Auditorium has already been replaced, but roof and seismic work is now critically needed in the Sunday School.
In the Auditorium, Maybeck has blended a number of architectural styles into a harmonious and beautiful whole. The beauty of the architecture combined with the beauty of the music offer the audience a rare treat.
Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Call (925) 376-3908 or visit www.FriendsOfFirstChurch.org.
